HIS STORYJustin Brett Dordick (commonly referred to as JD by his college folk and LA crew) was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised outside of Annapolis, MD (which justifies his love for the Eagles, the O's, and crabs). Justin grew up with his [twin] brother/partner in crime, Myles, and his parents, Arnie and Cathy Dordick.
Justin graduated from East Carolina University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree concentrating in Communications and Business Adminsitration. After graduation, Justin later took a position selling ad space in a military magazine, but knew it wasn't the right fit. Days later, he broke the news to his parents (over sushi & saki bombs) that he planned to pack his bags and move to Southern California. Though they thought he was crazy at the time, they supported his decision but were sad to see him go. In sunny LA, Justin eventually began working for Live Nation focusing on premium seating sales for seven venues across Southern California. |
HER STORYKathryn Jeanne Posavad (commonly known as Kate, Katie, or KJ to family and friends) was born and raised in Chardon, OH - just east of Cleveland. Kate has big love and true loyalty for all things Cleveland including Great Lakes Brewing Company, the Cleveland Browns, Drew Carey, The Tribe, and of course, Rock n' Roll. Kate grew up with her older sister, Kelli, younger brother, Ryan, and her parents, Bill & Kathy Young and Ken & Elaine Posavad.
Kate graduated from Ohio University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree concentrating in Art History. After graduation, Kate headed back to Cleveland and began her career in planning events at House of Blues. A couple of years later, Kate was promoted from within and transitioned into spearheading premium seat sales at Live Nation in Cleveland, where she sold annual seating packages for House of Blues, Blossom Music Center, Tower City Amphitheater, and Nautica Pavilion. |
OUR STORY
After accepting a sales position with Live Nation in April 2009, it was off to Chicago for a little training. Naturally, I hang around those who are the same age as myself, so I immediately noticed this gorgeous, blue-eyed, little woman. It was then I got to know Kate Posavad from Cleveland, Ohio.
We continued to get to know each other over the next 48 hours until it was time for us to part ways. I was fortunate to have made a friend. Before it was time to depart, Kate invited me to have drinks and a bite with her cousin (Chip) who lived in Chicago. Who was I to turn down a pretty lady's offer? Great conversation was had and it wasn't before too long before it was time to head to the airport. Kate and I shared a cab, which made sense since our flights were at the same time. (I have always been an "everything happens for a reason" type of guy.) Kate attempted to get most of her jewelry off before we got to O'Hare because we were running late. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to get every piece of jewelry into her purse... I texted her a picture of the ring she "dropped" informing her I was holding it as collateral for her to come visit Los Angeles. Lucky for me, she came out to visit 2 months following. Years later, when we tell the story of how we met, she'll say she didn't leave the ring in the cab on purpose (I will say she did). And the rest is history... |
<-- He tends to forget that I am actually 2 years younger... <--It was The Publican, per Chip's suggestion, and the food was great. The Matildas were also a nice treat. <--Everything DOES happen for a reason! <--He was very offended I had a negative perception of LA at the time and wanted to prove me wrong... <--Not everyone can make a long distance relationship work, so it was very serendipitous. <--J, you forgot to tell the part about how we made it to where we are now! For those of you that may not know the story in full, after I took that first trip out to LA 4th of July weekend 2009, Justin and I routinely began visiting each other back and forth every couple of months - sometimes meeting in different cities or each other's hometowns. At the time. our families (and probably some friends, too) thought that we were crazy (and boy, did those trips get expensive!), but I think we both knew that there was a reason it happened, a reason why we wanted it to work out, and a reason we wanted more than anything to be with each other forever. So, that's what we did. We made it happen. |
